Dance Bulgaria 2010

We strongly believe that a rigorous dance education, taught by committed professionals, will lead to an atmosphere in which young dancers will work very hard and perform to their full potential. Dance Bulgaria is designed exactly by this model to enrich young dancers’ lives and experiences in a very intense but fulfilling environment.

Dance Bulgaria is a week-long annual dance workshop which takes place in Bulgaria during the academic spring break (April 5-10, 2010). It is an international collaboration which targets young dancers, both from Europe and the United States. In the course of the week, young dancers (both amateurs and professionals in training) take classes in four different styles: Classical ballet, Modern dance, Character dance, and Hip-hop/Jazz. The classes are taught by renowned teachers and choreographers from both continents who bring unique expertise to dancers who do not have the chance to experience it in their routine dance curricula. Each student also participates in a choreography set up during the course of the workshop. The goal of the project is to give the students the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of several fundamentally different dance forms, while also allowing them to take part in the creative process. The workshop closes with a Final Concert where the choreographers show their new pieces.
